We are raising funds for the Khazana Children's Development (CDK) program of the Hamara Foundation. Hamara Foundation started in 1989 as a field project of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) by Prof. dr. Dr. Asha Rane in response to the increasing problems of street children in Mumbai. The main goal of the Hamara Foundation is to let children become independent so they have a chance for a higher quality of life.
The main objective of the CDK program is to have a positive impact on life and future of children in slums by enabling them to break free from the vicious circle of poverty.
In CDK the children organize regular meetings, nominate their own volunteer managers (for six months) and members for the advanced committee, who then receive training to fulfill their accounting responsibilities, improve communication skills and learn to be part of a team. As part of the practicum, the children manage their own Khazanas on a cooperative basis with clear time schedules, and the children focus on entrepreneurship, or they learn a professional skill and overcome their poverty and insecurity. The main objective of CDK is to Promote life skills through education through democratic participation, providence to the principles of cooperative and financial management, accounting and banking, and to Stimulate entrepreneurship.
